Q&A
How did you get your nickname?Cajmonet is a classy way to say cash money. First it started as a joke in school. I made a tee shirt, business cards, and a hat that said “CajMonet- your hair on display.” I started wearing them whenever I worked on photo shoots and fashion shows and that is how I got my nickname.
How did you first get started in creating fantasy hairstyles? It was a different world of hair for me. It wasn't something I showed the world. I started creating fantasy hairstyles in my garage for fun.
What is your professional background?I worked as a contract specialist for 7 years and did hair on the side. I was trying to find the right moment to go independent and quit my cubicle job.
What is your background when it comes to styling and fashion? If I don’t have a photo shoot planned, I will make one happen. I am a go-getter! I do everything from wardrobe, makeup, hair and concepts. I like working with like-minded people, and I have built a strong network of friends and colleges.
How do your hair designs reflect your personality?I love versatility and being original. I like my pieces to be more then attractive. I believe the entire work of art should create a character or setting.
Is there anyone in particular who directed you to pursue this unique art?My family and friends have been very supportive of me. Also, my fiancé is one of a kind. Without their support and love I think I would still be pushing paper.
Who is the person who has influenced your work the most?I can’t say one person has influenced my work. Everyone that I have ever known has been influential.
What previous jobs and experiences have influenced your work? While I was in beauty school I was able to be apart of the GHD world styling team, which opened new doors for me as a new stylist. I was also blessed to be recognized by Michael Rosner (a body painter and artist from Northern California) while I was still in Beauty school. Him and I collaborated together, and I did my first Indie music video with Auradrone. Anther influence was Erika Harding, owner of Architexture salon. I was able to volunteer my time and work an aids fundraiser fashion show. That was my turning point- a newfound love for hair!
How long have you been in the business?I have been in the business for two years.
Do you have a particular style that you tend to stick to when it comes to styling hair?I do not have a particular style that I stick with.
If there is one thing that you want your fans to know about your life, prior to the competition, what would it be?Don’t mind what people say. Do your own thing!
Do you have any funny/special habits? It’s not really a habit but more of a lifestyle. I do not wear flat shoes of any kind. They have to have at least 3 inches of heels on them or they do not go on my feet.
What would viewers be surprised to learn about you? They would be surprised that I do not watch TV. I have never watched a reality show until I was cast for this show. The few nights I had before filming I watched Americans Next Top Model so I could see what I was getting myself into.
Who's your celebrity hair idol?I don’t have an idol, but I would like my name to be “house hold” like, “Paul Mitchell,” of course over time.
Who's your style inspiration?I love Valentino!
Which celeb would be your dream hair model?Madonna, of course! I heard she is tough. I aspire to be like that.
What is the most outrageous piece of work you've created? That is hard to say. It was the last challenge of the show.
What's your fave fashion trend?Does leopard print count? =)
What's your biggest hair "no no"?My biggest hair “no no” is bad extensions!
What's your favorite hair product/tool?My GHD irons are my favorite hair product.
Do you style/cut/color your own hair?I style and color my own hair. Sometimes I will cut it.
How often do you change your own hairstyle?I change my hairstyle every 6 months or so.
What's your favorite haircolor?I love red ginger hair!
What do you recommend for someone who is having a bad hair day?I would recommend letting it do what it wants to do or see a professional.
What's the craziest item you've used in a fantasy hairstyle? At home I made one that played music.
